UBEC, SUBEB Chairmen Meet on HOPE-EDU Implementation Readiness

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has convened a two-day strategic meeting with Executive Chairmen of State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) in Abuja to assess states’ readiness for the implementation of the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity for Quality Basic Education (HOPE-EDU) programme.
The meeting focused on state onboarding, stakeholder engagement and sensitisation, as well as operational preparedness for effective programme delivery.
Presenting Benue State’s progress, the Executive Chairman of Benue SUBEB, Dr. Grace Adagba, highlighted the ₦150 million monthly school grant scheme instituted by Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia.
The scheme provides ₦50,000 monthly to headteachers and principals to support essential school operations. Adagba noted that the initiative, alongside investments in school infrastructure and learning materials, had improved learning environments and positioned the state favourably for HOPE-EDU implementation.
She emphasised that Benue State’s ongoing basic education reforms provide a solid foundation for advancing equitable access to quality education and improving learning outcomes.
The HOPE-EDU programme, co-financed by the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), is being implemented through collaboration between UBEC and SUBEBs to strengthen basic education delivery and expand access to education financing.
