Osun APC endorses Adeleke’s campaign council for Tinubu’s re-election…Pledges support for 1.5m votes target
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed the presidential campaign council coordinated by Governor Ademola Adeleke for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, dismissing reports that the party had established a parallel campaign committee in the state.
The party clarified that the committee headed by its governorship candidate in the last election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, was established to coordinate campaigns for APC candidates contesting national and state legislative seats.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, said the party had no reason to establish a separate presidential campaign committee, given Adeleke’s appointment as the state coordinator of Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
The party said the governor had expressed his readiness to work with other political parties in the state to secure more than 1.5 million votes for Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential election.
It added that it remained committed to working with Adeleke to achieve the president’s electoral victory.
The statement read, “We have said it times without number that we are grateful to Governor Adeleke for his demonstrated resolve to lead the campaign for our presidential candidate and that we are ready and willing as a party to work with him.”
The APC said the rally held last Saturday at Nelson Mandela Park in Osogbo, the state capital, demonstrated its commitment to working with the governor towards Tinubu’s re-election.
“Our appeal is to the agents of evil machination to desist from trying to bring rancour, division and disunity to the rainbow coalition which is evidently yielding bountiful results,” the statement added.
The party further clarified that Oyebamiji remained the Director-General of its parliamentary campaign organisation while also promoting Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“It is expedient to state that Asiwaju Oyebamiji remains the Director-General of our parliamentary campaign organization and that he is as well jointly promoting the good works of our presidential candidate to garner as much as over 1.5 million votes for the President,” the statement said.
The Osun APC also acknowledged concerns raised by some members of its state executive committee over their exclusion from a campaign list circulated on social media on Tuesday.
According to the party, only four of the 35 state executive committee members were reportedly omitted from the list, prompting them to draw the party’s attention to the development.
The statement said the concerns expressed by the affected executives showed their desire to participate actively in the campaign activities of the Oyebamiji-led parliamentary campaign council.
The statement was signed by Olabisi on behalf of the Osun State APC.
